LA Riots-has it been that long ago??
The anniversary of the LA riots is today, I think it's twenty years. or twenty-five. Whatever, it went by so fast, doesn't matter, here's my story, my friend Annette, it was her birthday and she wanted to go see " Phantom of the Opera in LA for her birthday, at the I think Schubert? or Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, I can't remember where we saw it, but I have the stub somewhere, $40. back then that was really expensive. So, this must mean this is Annette's birthday, I have to see if I can find her and wish her a happy birthday, okay, back to my little tale. We got the tickets and low and behold, the verdict of the cops on trial for the beating of Rodney King, well that came out that day. The city was set on fire. Businesses were destroyed, I'm not sure if anyone was killed. But I do know that my family asked me not to go see this play. My answer, "And waste $40.00, no way!!" So I was off to Los Angeles with my friend Norma, Annette and her mother. It wasn't until we reached the City of Commerce that you could see the impending doom. This may not be the smartest idea I'd ever had, what the hell, you only live once, right, as far as we know anyway!! I had driven too far to turn back, and I had a ticket, I was going to a real play, even though I wasn't really looking forward to it. I was really a wild child at the time. To look at me now, you would never know it. I was really really wild. HONESTLY. I had fun. I used to go out dancing a lot with my friends and we had fun. That was the extent of it though. I used to drink a bit too. Anyway, The play, is still amazing, I love it so much, it's part of my soul. , then we get outside, and the national guard is pointing their RIFLES at us, and threatening to SHOOT US. I felt safer walking on the sidewalk. They were nuts. I got up early and drove home just in case they were going to wake up early and set the city back on fire, and was at work the next day at 8:00. Didn't miss a minute. I worked a saturday. I needed the money. I would today if I had a job. Well Goodnight, hopefully the city will never burn again, I haven't been there in at least 5 years. No one notices me anyway.
